Another age related trope of the MK5 Golf platform, it is quite common to see MK5's driving around with the wiper fallen down from the rear glass, still hanging on for dear life whilst scratching the hell out of the tailgate. The plastic fitting goes brittle overtime and cracks, causing the metal fitting that secures to the rear wiper motor to no longer be secure, hence the arm flops around.
