The coolant expansion tank in your vehicle allows additional coolant a place to go after expansion and contraction from temperature change whilst the engine is running. Due to it being subjected to such drastic changes on a regular basis, it can often crack or break causing coolant to leak.
On some original expansion tanks fitted to the 2.0 TSI, EA888 MQB platform vehicles, the expansion tank had a sillicone packet inside. However over time this packet can either brake up or be sucked into the coolant system blocking coolant lines and potentially overheating your engine. The silicone packet can be carefully removed from the original expansion tank if visible.
This Latest version of the part does not come with a silicone packet so there is nothing to worry about with this updated version.
Does not come with a replacement coolant expansion cap!
